Employee Safety
Employee safety is about healthy, safe, motivated and satisfied employees. Reduction in workers compensations costs and lost time costs is a by-product of an effective approach to employee safety. Doing things well is always more interesting than dealing with the negatives of employee harm and injury.
Defensible Employment Practices
A staff with excellent morale and self-initiative can occasionally be strengthened by removing an employee who drags down the work of others or "doesn't get it". For the very few, efficient and effective discipline or termination of employment are the needed management responses. AND DO IT DEFENSIBLY! HR directors and supervisors should be accountable for the timely and effective practice of the organization's at-will rights.

Transportation Safety
Thanks to the National Safety Counsel, excellence in accident free driving can and does occur when an organization changes the way its driving staff think about driving (consciously or unconsciously). Some of the Counsel's ideas are:
- Yes, it is dangerous out there, but one can drive continuously from point A to point B without accident or violation.
- Believe it! Driving without accident or violation can occur in spite of the actions of others! It's called Defensive Driving.
- Yes, there are unpreventable accidents, but not nearly what most people assume.
- Driving is not something done while the mind is occupied by other things. It should be one more job done well.
Special Event Management
Where would services to persons with disabilities be without fund raising and special events? Special events can and do include special occasions in the organization's services to its customers.
Doing risky but great events raises dollars. Doing them with pre-planning for safety sends everyone home safe and a greater net for the organization.
But it is more than this. It is also getting prior arrangements correct.
- Contracts: leases, insurance requirements, indemnification clauses.
Don't take everything they hand you. Negotiate! - Good management of the hazardous stuff, e.g. alcohol, animals, firearms,
